OLD DOWNTON LODGE

The village of Downton, long before the building of the gothic Downton Castle, clustered around Old Downton Lodge.

The village and the lodge were abandoned when Black Death swept the country.

Ironically that has allowed parts of the Lodge and the timber framed farmhouse to survive exactly as they were in medieval times.

Now the buildings have been painstakingly converted to form a unique boutique hotel that is perfect not only for shooting parties but also for summer ramblers and other visitors to the area.
